Taichi Kho wins historic gold medal in Asian Games

October 1st, 2023 marked a historic day for 22-year-old Taichi Kho and Team Hong Kong as they clinched both gold and bronze medals respectively.

Kho’s exceptional performance began with an outstanding round one, where he shot an impressive 62, marking his personal lowest round ever. With no bogeys, Kho trailed only South Korean Jang Yu-bin heading into round two at the West Lake International Golf Course in Hangzhou.

Kho’s brilliance continued in round two as he achieved another personal best with a stellar 12 under-par performance, extending his lead to a remarkable six shots over his competitors.

Maintaining his dominance, Kho entered Sunday in first place with an aggregate score of 24 under-par, three shots ahead of Chinese Taipei’s Hung Chien-yao.

On the final hole, Kho confidently hit the green, merely requiring a two-putt to secure victory. With a long putt that left the ball close to the hole, Kho easily tapped in to finish the day with a score of 69 (-3), fending off contenders like 2019 PGA Rookie of the Year Im Sung-jae, earning Kho the gold medal in men’s individual golf at the Asian Games.

The Asian Games victory adds to Kho’s already incredible breakout campaign, highlighted by his earlier triumph at the World City Championship in March that secured him a spot in the 2023 Open Championship.

With the momentum of his recent success, Kho sets his sights on the Hong Kong Open this November, eager to showcase his skills on his home course and continue his remarkable journey.
