UBS initiative brings golf to the local community across 18 districts in 18 days

Earlier today, local golfer Terrence Ng participated in the UBS Hong Kong Open HK18 Challenge with renowned TVB artist and amateur golfer Jason Chan Chi-san at the Eastern District stop of the 18-day community initiative.

Launched on 22 November in the Islands District at the Mui Wo ferry pier, Ng and Chan today competed in a five-hole challenge at Quarry Bay Park, which was won by Ng. The contest will visit all 18 districts of Hong Kong, with the final taking place in Central District on Friday 9 December.

“The contest is harder than it looks! HK18 is a really clever idea. The fact that it is taking place across Hong Kong can only help grow the sport here. I hope it helps attract a large crowd to the UBS Hong Kong Open. It would be amazing for me to be playing in front of a huge gallery of local fans,” said Ng.

Recently-married Chan added: “A big thank you to UBS Hong Kong Open for inviting me to try the HK18 today. I had a great time testing my putting skills with Terrence. HK18 is a great opportunity for everyone around Hong Kong to experience the game, and there are some great prizes to be won.”

HK18 offers the public a unique opportunity to test their skills and a chance to pocket a HKD180,000 prize purse. The putting challenge features a 6 x 5 metre, 3-dimensional map of the city, complete with iconic landmarks such as the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, IFC, and the Star Ferry.

Putt your way to $180,000!

Participants play five shots at five holes of increasing difficulty. Players who make all five putts will be automatically entered into a skills contest that will take place on the practice green at the UBS Hong Kong Open on 10 December, after which five contestants will progress to a play-off to try their hand at an epic 18-meter putt.

All participants will receive a free Brand Hong Kong give-away, while those who advance as far as the third hole will receive a pair of free season passes to the 2016 UBS Hong Kong Open.

Those new to the game can bone up on their skills ahead of trying the HK18 with a virtual reality putting and bunker masterclass from Ryder Cup star, Rafael Cabrera-Bello.
