Defending champion to return to Hong Kong Open

The Australian has saved some of his best golf over the years for the Hong Kong Open, winning the competition for the first time in 2017 when he finished a stroke ahead of Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Alexander Bjork, Paul Peterson and Julian Suri.

A little over two years later, in January 2020, he lifted the prestigious trophy for a second time after finishing four strokes ahead of Shane Lowry to become one of only eight players to have won the title on more than one occasion.

Already one of the most successful golfers in the Hong Kong Open’s history, Ormsby is now aiming to become the first player to defend the title since Miguel Angel Jimenez went back-to-back in 2013 and 2014 to lift the trophy for a third and fourth time.

Indeed, just four players – Jimenez, Hsieh Min-Nan, Hsieh Yung-Yo and Peter Thomson – have won more than Ormsby’s two titles.

The Adelaide native, currently fourth in the International Series Order of Merit, will return to the scene of his triumph in January 2020 when he became the last player to win the event before the global pandemic altered plans everywhere.

The 43-year-old Australian won the International Series Thailand back in March and continues to be among the Asian Tour’s most consistent stars as he prepares for a crack at his third Hong Kong Open crown.
