The Hong Kong Open has a rich heritage of supporting the local community as much as it does the city’s burgeoning golf scene and with a number of community and charitable initiatives planned for the 61st edition, this year is set to raise the bar even higher.
Here are just some ways in which you can support the tournament’s charitable efforts and benefit from Hong Kong’s biggest annual festival of golf:
Fans under 21 years of age can enjoy FREE entry to the 2019 Hong Kong Open across all four days of the tournament.
Community Coaching Clinics
Professionals competing in this years’ tournament will once again be staging a number of coaching clinics throughout the week for school children and other community groups. Follow the tournament Facebook page for news.
Operation Santa Claus
Operation Santa Claus has been chosen as the tournament’s charitable partner for 2019.
Operation Santa Claus (OSC) is an annual charity campaign jointly organised by South China Morning Post (SCMP) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). It aims to support the Hong Kong community and beyond, through the combined charitable fundraising power of two of Hong Kong’s most respected news organisations.
From a modest beginning of raising HK$101,000 in 1988, Operation Santa Claus reached HK$16.2 million in 2017, and has become one of the most recognised and beloved charity efforts in the city. Over 31 years, its supporters have kindly donated over HK$290 million benefiting more than 270 charitable projects, inspiring hope and funding life-enhancing transformations to those in need.

Help us raise money!
Spectators and golf lovers can help the tournament raise as much money as possible for the chosen beneficiaries. Here’s some ways in which you can get involved:
Beat the Pro!
If you fancy your chances against the best, then this is your chance to show us what you can do! For the first time since the event’s inception, the Hong Kong Open is enabling 20 amateur golfers to compete ON COURSE against the professionals. Staged at the par-3 12th hole on Saturday 30th November, lucky participants will take a tee shot after the professionals and if they can get closer to the pin than any of the pros then there are some awesome prizes to be won.
We’re asking participants to bid for a place in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. All proceeds will go to Operation Santa Claus, so have a whip-round amongst your friends and work colleagues and put your money where your mouth is! Keep an eye on the tournament Facebook page for our call for participants.
Spare change please!
As in previous years, there will be a number of collection boxes placed around the course and in the Spectator Village for anyone wishing to make a donation. Please do give generously!
The annual Hong Kong Open Charity Cup returns on Tuesday 3rd December, allowing members of the public the rare chance to play the legendary Championship Course, while supporting some very worthy causes.
